The best oatmeal

(Adapted from Cookie and Kate)

1 tbs butter (or coconut oil)
1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats (I use Trader Joe’s Organic Rolled Oats with Ancient Grains and Seeds)
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup milk
A generous pinch of salt
A pinch of spices powder of your choice (cinnamon, nutmeg, etc.)
Toppings of your choice (fresh or dried fruits, nuts, nut butter, honey, etc.)

  1. In a medium saucepan, heat butter over medium heat.
  2. Add the rolled oats.
  3. Stir continuously until the oats begin to turn lightly golden (about 5 minutes).
  4. Pour in the water + milk + salt + spices (if using).
  5. Mix well.
  6. When the liquid starts to bubble toward the center of the pot, cover and turn off the heat.
  7. Allow the oats to rest in the covered saucepan for 7 minutes.
  8. Serve with your choice of toppings.
    • Note: It’s best to eat on the same day.
