The best oatmeal
(Adapted from Cookie and Kate)
1 tbs butter (or coconut oil)
1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats (I use Trader Joe’s Organic Rolled Oats with Ancient Grains and Seeds)
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup milk
A generous pinch of salt
A pinch of spices powder of your choice (cinnamon, nutmeg, etc.)
Toppings of your choice (fresh or dried fruits, nuts, nut butter, honey, etc.)
- In a medium saucepan, heat butter over medium heat.
- Add the rolled oats.
- Stir continuously until the oats begin to turn lightly golden (about 5 minutes).
- Pour in the water + milk + salt + spices (if using).
- Mix well.
- When the liquid starts to bubble toward the center of the pot, cover and turn off the heat.
- Allow the oats to rest in the covered saucepan for 7 minutes.
- Serve with your choice of toppings.
- Note: It’s best to eat on the same day.
