Rosemary-Cranberry Margarita

(From Food & Wine)

Rosemary simple syrup:
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup water
3 rosemary sprigs

Cocktail:
3 tbs blanco tequila
1.5 tbs unsweetened cranberry juice
1 tbs Cointreau
1 tbs lime juice, plus lime wedge
1 tbs rosemary simple syrup (from above)

Garnish:
2 tsp granulated sugar
1 tsp kosher salt
Rosemary sprig
Fresh cranberries
Ice cubes

To make the rosemary simple syrup

  1. In a small saucepan, mix sugar + water + rosemary.
  2. Simmer over medium-low for about 10 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat and let cool completely.
  4. Remove rosemary springs. Set aside.

To prepare the glass

  1. On a small plate, combine granulated sugar and kosher salt.
  2. Rub rosemary leaves into the sugar-salt mixture until fragrant.
  3. Rub rim of glass with lime wedge.
  4. Dip the rim into the sugar-salt mixture.
  5. Fill glass with ice. Set aside.

To make the cocktail

  1. In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, combine tequila + cranberry juice + Cointreau + lime juice + rosemary simple syrup.
  2. Shake until well chilled.
  3. Strain cocktail into prepared glass.
  4. Add rosemary sprig and fresh cranberries.
  5. Serve immediately.
