Chicken Shawarma with Creamy Garlic Sauce
(Adapted from Simple Recipe)
For the chicken:
4 lbs boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts
2 tbs ground cumin
2 tsp ground coriander
2 tsp paprika
1 tsp turmeric
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp ground ginger
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
Juice of 1 large lime
4 tbs olive oil
Salt and pepper, to taste
For the Garlic Sauce:
1 cup plain Greek yogurt
2 cloves garlic (finely grated)
Juice of 1/2 lime
1/2 tsp ground cumin
Salt and pepper, to taste
- In a large bowl, combine all the marinade ingredients.
- Add the chicken and mix well.
- Set aside for 15 minutes (the longer the better, even overnight in the fridge).
- Preheat the oven to 400F.
- Roast the chicken for about 25 minutes.
- Note: Alternatively, you can grill the chicken, about 6 minutes per side.
- To make the garlic sauce: mix all sauce ingredients in a small bowl.
- Serve the chicken with garlic sauce and rice (or pita or salad)
