For those with young kids, what could be worse than a long weekend? A super long weekend!!
While others are planning to watch firework outdoor, we have our own in the kitchen. There are lots of crackles with this recipe.
Ultra-Crispy Roasted Pork Belly (Easy Recipe)
(Adapted from Savoury Days)
2 lbs pork belly
1 tsp five spices
1 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp garlic powder
3/4 tsp salt
Juice of 1/4 lime (or vinegar)
1 egg white (optional)
Kosher salt
- Use a knife to scrub the pork belly skin clean.
- Mix five spices, onion powder, garlic powder, and 3/4 tsp salt.
- Rub the spice mixture on the pork belly, cover, and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
Using oven:
- Preheat the oven to 400F.
- Layer baking tray with aluminum foil.
- Put the meat, skin side up, on a lined baking tray.
- In a small bowl, mixed kosher salt with egg white.
- Rub lime juice or vinegar on the clean skin, and spoon a thick layer of salt-egg white mixture on the skin.
- Put tray in middle rack and bake for 30-35 minutes.
- Meanwhile, boil a kettle of water.
- Discard salt layer and aluminum foil.
- Move tray to the highest rack. Pour boiling water in the tray so that water can cover about 1/2 inch of the meat.
- Continue to bake for another 20-25 minutes.
- Change to high broil for another 5 minutes.
Using Airfryer:
- Preheat Airfryer to 390F (it’s ready when it beeps).
- On an aluminum foil, put the meat, skin side up.
- In a small bowl, mixed kosher salt with egg white.
- Rub lime juice or vinegar on the clean skin, and spoon a thick layer of salt-egg white mixture on the skin.
- Lower the heat to 360F.
- Place meat with aluminum foil in the basket.
- Bake for 30 minutes.
- Discard salt layer.
- Increase the heat to 390F and bake for another 10 minutes.
- Broil in oven for another 5 minutes.
