Vinegared rice for sushi (sushi meshi)

This is how you celebrated Valentine’s Day after 10+ years of marriage:

First, you booked a nice restaurant for a romantic lunch.

Then somehow you both managed to piss each other off after ten minutes or so. You both went back to the office fuming.

Vinegared rice for sushi

(From Step-by-step Japanese cooking)

3 cups sushi rice (cooked)
4 tbs rice vinegar
2 tbs sugar
2 tsp salt

  1. In a small bowl, combine the vinegar, sugar, and salt.
  2. Put the vinegar mixture in the microwave for about 30 seconds to dissolve the sugar and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, use a rice paddle or spoon to quickly toss the rice with the vinegar mixture so it becomes glossy.
  4. Serve immediately.
